A Rococo Encrier

Stockelsdorf, circa 1775

Faience, polychrome decorated.

Height: 10 cm (3.9 inch)
Width: 26,5 cm (10.4 inch)
Depth: 27 cm (10.6 inch) Ref No: 1868

The form of this rare encrier is based on the model of the known faience master Johann Georg Buchwald, who produced it first in the manufacture of Marieberg, later also in Eckernförde, Kiel and Stockelsdorf.

The faience factory of Stockelsdorf founded in 1771 near Lübeck with Johann Georg Buchwald as director 1772-85. Among the Baltic faience factories it is known for its very attractively painted enamel colours and the ebulliently forms of the Northern European Rococo. Only very few examples from this production survived and are of great rarity.
